August 7, 2011 - Pastor Leslie Crockett, Jr.

Taking God for granted leads to sin & backsliding!

  • Hebrews 2:1-3 ~ We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
    • If we do not hold on to the things we've heard, we will end up going back into the world. Take heed to the things/Word of God to avoid backsliding! Be prepared with the full armor of God We are without excuse; God has given us everything we need to be able to stay saved! Salvation is great & neglecting it is a choice, not an option because God gives us the tools to succeed as a Christian. Sin & failure in the Gospel is a choice we make but definitely not what God desires for & demands from us. Take heed that you stand!

  • Hebrews 3:7-19 ~ So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice,  do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.’ So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

    • Do not harden your heart toward God because He will take His grace away from you! When your heart becomes cold & evil, you begin to walk in unbelief & will depart from God. If we don't hold on to God & walk in His grace that saved us, we will lose our faith & eventually our souls. When we continue to walk in disobedience & sin, we grieve the spirit of God.
  • 2 Peter 1:3-14 ~ His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

    Therefore, my brothers and sisters,
make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
    • God has given us the gift of salvation which is an escape from sin. he has given us the tools to succeed, to serve Him & to walk in His promises. His knowledge & our trust, faith & obedience to His word (which is the Truth) we have the victory! Don't allow things & circumstances to take your eyes off of Jesus! Be diligent in the things of God to ensure your salvation to the end; don't go back to what God delivered you from!

    • Be careful what you feed your spirit. You become what you eat & if you're not careful, you will backslide.
