June 26, 2011 ~ Asst. Pastor Mitchell Morgan

1.  Numbers 13:1-3 ~ The LORD said to Moses, "Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders." So at the LORD’s command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.
  • Leaders cannot be without faith for without faith, it is impossible to please God.
2.  Numbers 13:17-25 ~ When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, “Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country. See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified? How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.” (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.) So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath. They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) When they reached the Valley of Eshkol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. That place was called the Valley of Eshkol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there. At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.

  • God will give specific instructions if we yield to His Spirit - don't let yourself stray or wander; stay focused. God sees us through the blood of Jesus who makes intercession for us. Thus grace & mercy abounds. Therefore, we as Christians who mess up & repent can move on & sin no more AND do the will of the Father!
3.  Numbers 13:26-33, 14:1-9 ~ They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.” Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
  • God gave them everything, yet they wanted more... we can be the same way - though we see the blessings of God, one circumstance will take our eyes off God & we will lose faith. NOW faith is the evidence & substance - move in faith & without doubting God. Don't questions; just do it! Have the spirit that Caleb had - believe AND MOVE at once! Have faith that God will do what He said He will do! You don't have to try it; if you are trying then you aren't trusting. God didn't say we can TRY to do all things; He said we CAN DO ALL THINGS!
  • Stop complaining & looking at circumstances; see it through the eyes of faith so you can tackle the situation head on with the confidence of God! Don't think little of yourself; boast in who you are in God. You have the power of His might; just because you think that you cannot do a things for whatever reason, know that God is able to do more than we can imagine. so if we have faith in that & trust Him, we know we have all we need to succeed. Stop stressing; change what you can by faith in God & the rest - give to Him. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. I Am that I Am is our deliverer, our redeemer, our freedom, our fortress & shield; of whom or what should we be afraid? God did not give us the spirit of fear; He gave us love, power & a sound mind! God has done ALL He will do; until we make up our minds to do better, our situations will not change. He owes us NOTHING, but we owe Him EVERYTHING!
  • We tend to fear & go back to what is comfortable/familiar even if it's wrong or harmful. Trust in God that no matter what the circumstance or situation is, God will deliver us & bring us out! The Lord says "Be still & know that I am God"!
  • If God is for us, who can be against us? Don't let others dictate to you & don't try to do anything in your own strength. If God delights in you, He will direct your path - do NOT rebel against Him. If we stay in His word & allow God to lead & guide us, we will not stumble. You will succeed in what He has called you to do!
